The City of Ardmore currently has two large fiberglass buffalo statues. One buffalo has been located on the north side of Central Park and the other on the east side of City Hall for many years. The City of Ardmore is currently having fiberglass repairs made to both buffalo. After all repairs are complete, The City of Ardmore would like to have local artists creatively repaint these buffalo statues. These buffalo were originally part of a 2004 cooperative project with The Nature Conservancy's “Spirit of Buffalo” promotion. The two buffalo are to be placed for public viewing back in Central Park and at City Hall upon completion.
This is an open competition. Design proposals and resumes (if available) showing any other previous work is requested from each artist that is interested in this great project. Blank proposal outlines of the buffalo will be provided on paper to make it easy for anyone that is interested. A panel will be asked to carefully look over the proposals to make a decision. A separate panel will be used to select the winning buffalo design proposal for each site. The artist will be given a $250.00 paint allowance by the Ardmore Beautification Council to begin and $500.00 by Create Ardmore upon completion of the project.
We would like the freshly painted buffalo to be a point of interest for an active and culturally vibrant downtown Ardmore. The guidelines for painting are straight forward: no politics, no religion, no advertising, no nudity, and no profanity in the proposed design. The buffalo will be reviewed for their appropriateness for public display.
Anyone interested in the project can pick up copies of the blank buffalo outlines for submittal at Ardmore City Hall located at 23 South Washington, at the Ardmore Parks and Recreation office located at 2704 North Rockford Road, and the Ardmore Public Library located at 320 E Street Northwest. They may also be printed off of the Create Ardmore Website www.createardmore.org and the City of Ardmore Website www.ardmorecity.org
All design proposals must be submitted by Monday, January 13, 2020 to the office of Kevin Boatright, Assistant City Manager, located in Ardmore City Hall, 23 South Washington Street. You may call 580-221-2529 for more information.
