S.A.V.E. is an acronym for Student Anti-Violence Education.  The Program was started in 2003 in Ardmore and Plainview Elementary Schools.  The principal and teachers allow Corporal Garcia to come into the classrooms and teach the S.A.V.E. program.  Corporal Garcia teaches 4th grade at Franklin, Charles Evans, Lincoln, Oak Hall & Jefferson Schools in the Ardmore Public School District, and 5th grade in the Plainview School District. The program consists of eight lessons.  The lessons are about 30-45 minutes long once a week until the conclusion of the curriculum.

Lessons covered are as follow:

LESSON 2 BULLIES AND BULLYING
LESSON 3 VICTIMS
LESSON 4 TEACHING STRATEGIES FOR THE VICTIM
LESSON 5 PERSONAL SAFETY
LESSON 6 GANG AWARENESS
LESSON 7 ALCOHOL, OTHER DRUGS & IMPACT ON THE FAMILY
LESSON 8 RESISTANCE TECHNIQUES, ALTERNATIVES & CHOICES
   

Each child receives a t-shirt, workbook, pencils, pens, stickers and a ruler.  At the conclusion of the program there is a graduation ceremony.  There are also essay and art contests in which the winners get a special prize.  After their graduation there is a reception with snacks and drinks. This program is made possible through the City of Ardmore with no expense to the child or the school.
