  • The re-application process for civilian positions, in general, is open to anyone. However, certain positions that require testing (such as Communications Specialist) are on a case-by-case basis. If the applicant has already taken the exam and failed, the applicant is not allowed to take the test a second time, therefore, they are not allowed to re-apply.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

Duties include, but are not limited to, operation and maintenance/upkeep of equipment. Works with and assists the line crew in digging ditches, pot holing, hoisting material, tools, equipment and any related work with a backhoe.  Additional duties include but are not limited to, assisting line crews with maintenance of water and/or wastewater utilities, digging near other Utilities such as pressured gas utilities, electric utilities, phone utilities, cable television lines, Fiber optic lines and backfilling jobs upon completion.  Position requires after normal business hours, on-call and work on appointed weekends.

Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a State Terminal Certification issued by the State of Oklahoma within six (6) months of hire date. Knowledge to operate computer aided dispatch 9-1-1 systems. Receive emergency service calls from the public requesting law enforcement, fir ambulance or other emergency service. Knowledge of basic office procedures, methods and computer equipment, general law enforcement codes, practice and methods, knowledge of basic principles and procedures of record keeping. Ability to perform routine clerical duties, type accurately at a speed necessary for successful job performance, communicate verbally and in writing, to handle stressful situations, to work various rotating shifts, sitting extended periods of time, and subject to call ins. Work closely with others in an office environment, sustained posture and intense attentiveness for prolonged periods, with the ability to maintain confidentiality and to follow all policy and procedures of the Department and the City.

 

REQUIRED:

 **All applicants must perform a data entry examination with the Oklahoma Workforce Commission; (walk-ins are welcomed) located at 2421 Autumn Run Suite B, Ardmore, Oklahoma. This agency will test you on your data entry and occupational skills. These tests include the 10-key data entry, and word per minute typing test. The preferred data entry score is 40 words per minute or greater, however, if you do not achieve this score, you have not failed the test. Human Resources Director for the City of Ardmore, Oklahoma.  Responsible for a full service HR Department that works with approximately 260 FTE’s.  Duties include the recruiting and staffing of employees, employee performance management, classification and compensation, benefits administration, employee health insurance in a self-insured environment, personnel policy development and administration, safety and risk management, labor relations, collective bargaining agreement negotiations and administration, Oklahoma worker’s compensation, ensuring compliance with all Oklahoma and federal regulatory issues.

SELECTION GUIDELINES

The City of Ardmore may require applicants applying for a clerical position to take a typing, keyboard skills, Basic Occupational Literacy Test (BOLT) and 10-key test upon return of application to the Human Resources Department. The Human Resources Office or agents of the City may conduct this test.
